Before we had a name, our Children's Story, Inc. was a small support group that took place once per month on a Sunday in a Library in Dekalb County, Georgia. After hosting these meetups for a while, I began to research what it would take to start a business helping the community I became apart of in 2005.
After researching, I decided that a 501c3 would be the best option to execute my mission to serve my son, peers and the families that care for them. In 2016 I was granted the nonprofit status for Our Children's Story, Inc., in honor of my oldest son Anthony David Hicks Jr. "Moo."
Our Children's Story, Inc., brings awareness to Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy, which are the 2 primary diagnoses my son, Anthony Jr., has. Throughout this journey of building an entity that is in honor of such a beautiful little boy, we've been able to serve over 500 families through our programs and services. We've provided everything from:
With the assistance of Zoom and Facebook, we can offer virtual services and programs for families across the world. We are no longer limited to the state of Georgia!
Our Children's Story, Inc. was created in honor of my oldest son Anthony D. Hicks Jr. "Moo". His travel in this realm of life is one of strength and courage.
We will Inspire, Uplift, Encourage, and Educate families who support loved ones with disabilities. We want to make sure that families have access to resources and opportunities to regain hope within trying situations.
Our Children's Story, Inc. believes in inclusive opportunities for everyone. This organization prides itself on love, respect, and understanding of all people with absolutely no judgments. We believe in providing authenticity as well as honesty to everyone we come in contact with.
"To be the change we wish to see, we 1st have to conduct ourselves as such".
Our Children's Story, Inc. is morphing into an entity that supports the disability community. There are services we desire for our children; however, due to the lack of funding within Georgia's State, families like mine don't have adequate access to support. Paying out of pocket for services not covered by insurance and not supported by the State of Georgia is difficult; services are expensive, and waiting lists are insane.
We desire to bridge the unmet gap within the special needs community by offering assistance in areas that will enhance the quality of life for those with disabilities.
In the next 5-7yrs, we will offer the following as consistent programs and services under this umbrella.
